The World According to Rita

From Where Does My Help Come?

Psalm 12: 1-8:
1. I will lift up my eyes to the hills [around Jerusalem, to sacred Mount Zion and Mount Moriah] ––– from whence shall my help come? [Jer. 3:23.]
2. My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
3. He will not allow your foot to slip or to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. [I Sam. 2:9; Ps. 127:1; Prov. 3:23, 26; Isa. 27:3.]
4. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand [the side not carrying a shield]. [Isa. 25:4.]
6. The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. [Ps 91:5; Isa. 49:10; Rev 7:16.]
7. The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life.
8. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
If God is on our side, who can hurt us? The devil has but one mission, and that is to come against us. But God is over us, under us, through us, for us and He surrounds us. So like Mount Zion, we should not be moved, because God is all around us, to take us through all the things we need to go through.
We should be strong enough that all we have to do is run to our heavenly Father with all our problems. Not to man, but our Farher. In these, God’s spoken words, He said He would take care of us; we just have to believe. It is important to clearly establish in our hearts that we will seek God first, as the psalmist did. God wants to guide each one of us––not just pastors, ministers or leaders, but every person who truly trusts Him. Discipline yourself to go to God first, and let Him choose whether He wants to speak to you Himself or use the counsel of other believers to clarify things for you.
Joshua 1:9 Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
My name is Rita and this is my Opinion.

Keeping it Together

By David Rice

There are basically 3 types of parents. Helicopters, drill sergeants, and consultants. A helicopter parent is one that is always hovering over their child and fixing their problems for them. They are the ones who drop everything because their child has forgotten their homework or their lunch money. They fix every situation because they believe that their child shouldn’t have to learn from their own mistakes. The drill sergeant always knows what to do. They always give orders and expect to be obeyed. They tend to be judgmental and critical. Any disagreement is tantamount to insubordination, so no discussion is tolerated. The consultant is the parent who is not afraid to let children learn from their own mistakes. These parents are there to teach their children the rules and help them make decisions. Which method is best? We will be discussing these parenting types in the future. I will now mention the other types of “parents”. These are the ones who have children because they think it makes them a man or fulfills them as women. This type of parent does not warrant much discussion at all. Any man who impregnates a woman or women, and then refuses to support their child/children, is no man at all. He is nothing more than a sperm donor and deserves little or no respect. A woman who decides for her own selfish reasons to have a child, isn’t much of a woman. She’s only thinking of herself. Being a parent requires years of unselfish love and work in order to help your child become a happy, productive individual. A real parent does what it takes to make this happen.
See you next week.

Globe Streets To Close for Movie Shoot

By Michael Casillas

Raw TV, an Entertainment company in England has requested and been granted permission to film scenes for an upcoming documentary in downtown Globe. The film is based on convicted felon Danny Ray “Rambo” Horning’s escape from the Florence prison in 1995 who had several federal and state law enforcement agencies in chase for almost 55 days.
Movie producers plan to use a stretch of Broad Street to film a high-speed, three-vehicle car chase that will begin at Sutherland and Oak, gain speed as it travels down Broad and will finish on Cedar at or around the Globe Fire Department.
City officials plan to enact several area street closures and traffic restrictions on portions of Oak Street, Hill Street, Broad Street, Cedar Street, and Pine Street between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 2nd.
The Globe Police Department will be providing on-duty officers to assist with crowd control and security to movie participants as well as the nearby vehicles and public. Globe Fire will have a paramedic crew dedicated to the scene as requested by the movie producers.
This isn’t the first time Globe has been chosen as the site for movie productions. In 1988 actor Robert DeNiro stared in the well-known hit “Midnight Run,” the story of a former Chicago policeman-turned-bounty-hunter, on the trail of a bail-jumping accountant, who embezzles $15 million of mob money and donates it to charity.

The Historic Fitzpatrick/Barcon building in Miami is the subject of a possible restoration project by the Barcon family.

 By Michael Casillas

Once again it was “standing room only” at Monday’s Miami Town Council meeting. The council opened the agenda with help from Boy Scout Troop 101 who led the room in the pledge of allegiance. The first order of business was a request by Town Manager Robert Mawson to discuss bids regarding construction on phase one of the Bullion Plaza Improvement Project. After reviewing the only received bid it was determined that the $453,000 bid well exceeded the town’s $250,000 project budget. The town will now seek some value engineering, which could help reduce the overall cost by several thousand dollars. No action was taken on the issue.
Council members also adopted a new street naming and property numbering ordinance that is part of a new enhanced 911 system suggested by the county, after it was determined that several streets were to similar in name and could create a delay in emergency response time.
The highlight of Monday’s meeting was a presentation by Fred Barcon and Alfredo Gutierrez regarding the possible restoration and use of the Fitzpatrick/Barcon building at the corner of Gibson and Keystone. The proposed project was described by Mr. Barcon as a “high risk venture” that should “provide resources and facilities that could attract Valley residents to come stay and spend money.” Barcon asked the council for an “exclusive agreement” that would allow for a feasibility study to determine the building’s condition. The building, which was built in 1909, is projected to be a restaurant and information center that would be “the place,” for tourists and visitors. Mr. Barcon estimates that the overall project could exceed $200,000, but would benefit both the town of Miami and Gila County.
The final order of business was a presentation by Town Manager Robert Mawson concerning the development of the 2008-2009 municipal budget for the town. After a few brief financial comments, Mawson announced his resignation from the town effective June 30th, when the newly- elected Miami Town Council will take office for the first time.
