AARP Tax-Aide Seeks Donated Computers

September 5, 2008

AARP Tax-Aide is in need of computer equipment for the upcoming tax-filing season.  Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service for low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

AARP Tax-Aide in Arizona set a record for electronic filings last year, e-filing over 50,000 federal returns and 41,000 state returns.  Over 64,000 Arizonans were helped with their tax returns by Tax-Aide volunteers.

“E-filing permits taxpayers to receive their refund much sooner.  It’s easy, fast and free through our program.  But, without computers and printers, we can’t provide these crucial services,” said Diane Pearson, AARP Tax-Aide State Coordinator.

Sue Key, an AARP Technology Specialist, says, “Due to the high demand for e-filing, the program’s inventory of donated computers and printers is in dire straits.  We especially need computers that need to be a Pentium 3 or better, with a processor speed of 800 MHz (or better), a minimum of 256 MB Ram and at least a 4 GB hard disk drive.  We are also in great need of laser printers and laptop computers.”

To donate a computer, printer or computer supplies to the AARP Tax-Aide program call Sue Key at 623•203•0047.
