Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park Continues “Open After Hours” with Music

State Park visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy live music after hours Saturday, August 23. The popular “Open After Hours” concert series will feature classical guitarist Jim Vandine beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Normal summer hours are from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., but hours will be extended August 23 until 8:00 p.m. A special admission price of $5.00 for non-members will be offered, and children under the age of five will be admitted free.. There is no charge for entertainment from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Visitors can bring a picnic basket and enjoy the music with family and friends. Charcoal grills are available in the picnic area.
Butterfly Walk
Saturday, August 23 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00am
Learn about butterfly life cycles and how to identify common species during this walk through the Demonstration and Hummingbird-Butterfly gardens.
Edible and Medicinal Desert Plants Guided Walk
Sunday, August 24 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Apache Junction author Jean Groen guides this walk along the Curandero Trail explaining how desert plants have fed, clothed and healed indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Following the tour she will share her special recipes of homemade desert edibles. Note the Curandero Trail is moderately steep and is not wheelchair accessible.
