Highway 60 Passing Lane Bids $9.2 to $12.3 Million

Bids for building a four-mile passing lane project on U.S. 60 west of the Pinto Valley Mine turn off ranged from $9.2 million to more than $12.36 million. Seven firms submitted bids for the local highway work which were opened last Friday (August
by officials of the Arizona Department of Transportation in Phoenix. All of the bids are now being reviewed by state officials.
They were as follows:
• $9,200,770 Fisher Sand and Gravel Company doing business as Southwest Asphalt Paving in Tempe
• $9,377,896 Meridian Engineering Company of Tucson
• $9,999,848 Fann Contracting, Inc in Prescott
• $10,023,486 S.J. Louis Construction, Inc of Phoenix
• $10,040,085 Rummel Construction, Inc, from Scottsdale
• $10,247,226 FNF Construction, Inc in Tempe
• $12,367,844 Royden Construction Company from Phoenix
Estimated cost by the Arizona Department of Transportation for the Hwy. 60 project was figured at $9,464,738. The state budgeted $12,131,000 for the new passing lane. This proposed work calls for adding an east bound climbing lane from milepost 236.13 to milepost 240.04 between the the Pinto Valley mine and the Top of the World. The state agency says the time allowed for the completion of this work would be 290 working days.
