Adventure, Challenge, Friends Learn More Thursday Jan. 23

Does rafting the Salt River rapids sound inviting? Or how about the chance to meet new friends, to challenge yourself in wilderness environments - or participate with team projects that make our Globe-Miami community a better place for everyone? Boy Scout Troop 101, sponsored by the Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge, invites young men age 11-17, and their families, to learn more about opportunities, events and activities the Cobre Valley scouts are planning during 2020. Meet scouts and parent volunteers during an open house at the old Globe Junior high (across from Globe High School) Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. Watch for the Christmas lights! The Troop will also have their climbing wall up and available for any and all that would like to give it a try. In addition to weekly meetings the Troop goes on at least an outing a month with age appropriate activities. What have we done in the past? We’ve climbed Humphreys Peak and Picket Post Mountain. We’ve gone on numerous day hikes and backpack trips into the Sierra Ancha and Superstition Wilderness Areas. We’ve snowshoed in and camped on four feet of snow, and done several week long 50 Mile backpack trips. Ten times we’ve gone to the largest High Adventure Base in the world, Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico.
