Posted

The Arizona Youth Partnership presented a Mock DUI at Harbison Field for students from Globe High School on March 8, with two previously wrecked cars set up in a t-bone wreck on the field and eight students from the Globe High School drama department posing as victims and drivers. The scenario read out to students involved one vehicle on its way to the movies with the driver distracted by her phone. The other vehicle had just left a party where the driver had been drinking alcohol and swerved into the first vehicle.

After the scenario was read it took several minutes for first responders to arrive. The narrator reminded students that help may not be there right away.

Once help did arrive, the football field was full of first responders from Globe Police Department, Globe Fire Department, Gila County Sheriff’s Department and Tri-City Fire Department. An actress posing as a mother ran to the accident from the bleachers screaming for her child.

Victims were either removed from the vehicle and transported to an ambulance or taken to the helicopter that landed on the fi eld. The entire display played out quickly, providing students with a disturbing example of the dangers of drinking and driving.
