One element in every community that often determines the way we view life is the quality of education our children and young adults receive.
There is no doubt that there is a direct relationship between having a generous amount of passionate and qualified teachers and being able to effectively prepare students for their futures. Arizona communities are currently facing a major problem; to put it simply, we need more highly qualified teachers.
Gila Community College and other concerned community leaders would like to offer a solution to this problem by introducing the Teacher Career Taskforce. The Teacher Career Taskforce offers tailored programs for individuals with varying levels of qualifications, to help them become highly qualified teachers.
A local teacher at Copper Rim Elementary school, Erika Flores, spearheaded the Teacher Career Taskforce movement. She recognized the need for a program that helps inspire local individuals to become teachers.
Due to its potential to strengthen the local education system, many community leaders support the Teacher Career Taskforce.
Gila County Superintendent Roy Sandoval has endorsed the program. Other stakeholders include the City of Globe, Pinal Mountain Foundation for Higher Education, Freeport McMoRan, Resolution, Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, and both Globe and Young Unified School Districts.
If you, or someone you know, are interested in becoming a highly qualified teacher, plan on attending Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gila Pueblo Campus in room 522 for an informative meeting. Representatives from Gila Community College, Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University will be there to guide you.
