Beny Ortiz

Beny Ortiz, born on Feb. 11, 1955 in Miami, AZ; passed away peacefully on June 27, 2020 in Mesa, AZ. He was a dear brother, uncle, son, and friend. Beny went home to the loving arms of Our Lord. He is now at peace; he made it! At the end, his childlike demeanor came out as he gave everything over to the mercy of God.

Forty-six years ago Beny was involved in a horrible car accident. He suffered a traumatic, debilitating brain injury that affected him the rest of his life. In the 70’s, when the accident happened, there was not enough known about this condition; thus making it difficult for others to understand the extent of the damage. Although he faced many obstacles in life, he always remained kind, humble, loving, and joyful. He had a great sense of humor. He would celebrate by saying, “Yahoo!” when treated to things like; ice cream, candy, or root beer.

Prior to the accident, he worked at the Tankhouse with Inspiration Copper; the very same place his Tata, Marto Jimenez, had worked. He later graduated from drafting school and worked in Scottsdale and for BP Minerals in Miami, AZ. He was also a wonderful landscaper and caregiver. He took care of both our parent’s home and our father. He loved making pancakes or chorizo for their breakfast. He was a prayer warrior, loved Jesus and Mary, and reading the word of God. He had a Bible that was constantly used, just looking at it provided that simple evidence.

Beny was a smart guy, graduating high school in only three years. Both he and our mother loved playing Jeopardy; they were full of information. He loved the Beatles and sang a great rendition of “Hey Jude” at karaoke. He loved art, drawing, playing chess, and listening to music. He loved his family dearly and was very happy to return home with his sisters.

Beny is survived by: his sisters, Bernice and Cecilia; his nephews, Tim (wife Zina), Alfred (wife Missy), Dominic, Paul, and James; his grand-nephews, Alec, Stephen, Daniel, and Cash; his grand-nieces, Baylee, Alexis, Nicci, and Darling; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his loving parents, Ben and Cora Ortiz; his beloved sister, Denise; and his big brother, Alfred.

We wish to thank everyone for their love and prayers. Our gratitude also goes out to all of those at Copper Village, Banner Baywood, and St. Anne Catholic Church.

So long Beny, we love and we will miss you.

“PEACE OUT!”
