In the first minute of the second quarter of the Jan. 8 game between rival high schools, Globe and San Carlos, Robert (B.J.) Burries, Jr. scored his 3,000th high school basketball point on a writhing layup.

The score was 19-16 for the Braves with 7:35 left in the second period, when Burries took a long pass down the left side line and sailed in past a San Carlos Brave for the basket.

He managed to draw the foul and made the free throw for the third point to tie the score 19-19.
