Carl A. Russell

Carl A. Russell passed away on Dec. 28, 2022. He was born in Chloride, Arizona on July 17, 1936 to Richard and Caroline (Van Horn) Russell.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma “Toots” Russell; stepson Dale Knight and daughter Karla (Roberto) Torres; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Carl was the seventh of eight children, with siblings Earl, Jerry, Gaye LaHawn, Laurance, Bob, Dixie Rainey and Linda Carns.

He served in the Army and National Guard from 1954 to 1962.

Carl worked for the Inspiration Copper Company for 35 years, and retired from Cyprus Mining Company in 1994. He started as a laborer, then moved up to diesel mechanic and supervisor before finishing as a general foreman. After retiring from the mines, he worked for the County Parks Service and the Forest Service.

He was president of the Town of Miami Jaycees and a member of the Globe Elks. He enjoyed working with his friends John Duber and Bill Baker on their mining claims, camping and fishing in the White Mountains, and traveling to Germany and Mexico.

Carl had so many friends, and he will be missed.
