Charleen Burkhart

1958 Globe High School Graduate, Charleen Dawson Burkhart passed away Sept. 9, 2019, in Atlanta Georgia. Charleen was raised in Globe on Devereaux Street with her two brothers, Edward (former Gila County Superior Court Judge) and Kenny of Clinton, Utah.

Her parents, Charley Milo and Florence Kenny Dawson preceded her in death.

After graduation, Charleen received her Nursing Degree from Good Samaritan Hospital and enlisted in the US Air Force.

She served during the Vietnam War and acted as a flight nurse bringing wounded home to the United States. When she began raising her family, she decided nursing was not a good occupation for a mother, so she got a teaching degree and taught school in Valdosta, Georgia for over 25 years.

She is survived by her children, Colonel Nickolas J Reed, USAF, stationed in Hawaii, Tami Shay Gunter of Atlanta Georgia, and Sean Charles Reed, of Americus Georgia. She also leaves five grandchildren, Chase and Dawson Reed in Hawaii, Riley and Mckenzie Gunter of Atlanta, and Charley in Americus Georgia.

Services were held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, Georgia, Sept. 17, 2019 at 1 p.m.
