Doyle W. Cowan

Posted

Doyle W. Cowan was born Sept. 29, 1935 in San Angelo, Texas.

Preceded in death by his father, Royce Cowan; brothers, Houston and Dale; and wife, Tommie

Survived by daughter, Cheryl Cowan Sterkenburg (Jim); brother, Russell Cowan (Sharon) of Kansas; sister, Salley of Walker, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews. A dear, longtime friend, Lois Jacott and her family, Steve, Michelle and Gabe Jacott, Kim, James, Kortney, Megan and Peyton Martin also survive him.

The oldest of five, he moved to Arizona when he was 16. He worked road construction as a heavy equipment operator from southern Michigan to northern California. One job brought him to Globe, where he met his wife, Tommie. One year later he started working at the mine as a welder and retired in 1994 from Cyprus Mining as the Rod Plant Maintenance Foreman.

In retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his jet ski and especially his ATV. In 2005, when his wife passed, he met a group of retired ATV riders who every Thursday met to go on ATV rides. Many friendships were formed from this group. They rode from Four Peaks to Green Peaks and all stops in between.

In 2006, Dad met his longtime friend, Lois Jacott, whose family was very dear to him, along with her church family at Maranatha Baptist.

He was a member of Family Fellowship Church, whose Senior Pastors Wayne and Nona Crick had been not only pastors but also friends for more than 50 years.

A life spent serving Jesus leaves behind no regrets.

Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2016 at Maranatha Baptist Church, 1320 Saguaro Drive in Globe, Ariz. Interment will be private at the Globe Cemetery.
