“Last time we had 205 bikes,” said Angela Earven, of the Dylan Earven Foundation. “We have to beat that number, even if it’s only by one!” Plans are a buzz for the Dylan Earven Foundation’s annual 5K run and fundraising event, and with the event scheduled for Sept. 28, there isn’t much time to gather bikes for the highly anticipated bike raffle.
The bike raffle is a big part of how the foundation raises money. Because the event is free for everyone to enjoy, the only money needed to attend is to buy raffle tickets to win a bike and for the food trucks. Raffle tickets will be sold for $.50 a piece.
This is the sixth year that the Dylan Earven Foundation is putting on this community event. This year promises to focus on kids. “The board really wanted to give back to the community and create an event full of fun,” said Earven. There will be jumping castles, a train for rides, and superheroes available for pictures. This will all be held at the Miami Football field on Saturday, Sept. 28 starting at 1:30. The run/walk will start around 5 p.m. “Once the runners return we will have a survivors lap,” said Earven.
Earven wanted to stress that this is not just an event to benefit cancer. “You can make your own T-shirts and walk in memory of someone whose passed on or whose fighting,” said Earven. “Everyone loves to honor their loved ones in some way.”
The money raised and donated goes to help local families with sick children under 18 years old. “We don’t just help children with terminal illnesses, we can make it easier for family to pay bills if they get behind,” said Earven. “All of the money we receive goes back to the community. We help families here!”
