Edwin “Ed” Hopkins

Edwin “Ed” Hopkins, also known as “Tiger,” 75, of San Carlos, Az., went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2021, at San Carlos Apache Healthcare surrounded by family and friends. He was born Aug. 11, 1945, in San Carlos. His parents are the late Katherine and Bert Hopkins, Sr. He was the oldest of nine siblings. On July 24, 1975, he married Lavonne Hopkins, who survives.

He graduated Miami High School in 1965. He was the Pastor of Abundant Life Church in Cutter, Az. He worked at Miami High School, the mines in Superior, Az., San Carlos Apache Juvenile Corrections, Drug and Alcohol Program, and Social Services. He then retired and enjoyed being with family and friends; and he also enjoyed fellowship with churches. He spent 46 years in the ministry. He labored in love for his community and was always willing to give to family, friends or strangers.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Juan Molina of Phoenix, Az.; daughter and son-in-law, Adrianne and Omar Rivera of Sacaton, Az.; son, Zachary Hopkins of San Carlos, Az.; grandchildren Alyssa Delma, Cristien and Hope Hopkins, Isaac and Paul Molina, Jazmyn, Alena, Aubrey and Omar Rivera Jr.; and siblings Fidella FastHorse, Marie Bendle, Patricia Bertoldo, Luther Hopkins, Efton Hopkins, Albert Hopkins and William Hopkins Sr. He is preceded in death by his son Paul Hopkins, parents Bert and Katherine Hopkins, brother Bert Hopkins Jr. and sister Andrea Steele.

A wake was held on July 9, 2021, at the late Bert Hopkins, Jr. and Judy FastHorse residence in Cutter, Az. It started at 4 p.m. A Funeral service was held on July 10, 2021, at Burdette Hall at 10 a.m. in San Carlos, Az.

His final resting place will be at Mormon Hill Cemetery in San Carlos.
