The 2019 Gila County 4-H Small Stock Show was held Saturday, March 23, at the Gila County Fairgrounds, and was open to all 4-H and FFA members.

The event included a raffle, dress-up contest, quiz bowl, breed show and much more.

The event included Showmanship in the rabbit, poultry and cavy categories for the Novice (first year in project), Junior (ages 9-13) and Senior (ages 14-19), as well as a Breed Show.

The dress-up contest asked participants to “dress up your critter,” with no particular theme, as long as it was in good taste.

Judging took place during the lunch break and special prizes were awarded for the best costumes. There was a quiz bowl for juniors and seniors with teams of three to five members.

Questions were on rabbits, cavies and poultry.

The Breed Show rules required that all animals entering the exhibit hall had to be healthy, well-kept and housed in clean and safe cages.

The Poultry Divisions and Awards were Chicken (Bantam and Large), Duck (Bantam, Light, Medium and Large), Pigeon and Goose Poultry were all judged according to the APA Standard of Perfection.

Non-purebred birds were judged according to overall condition and could not be chosen as Grand or Reserve Best of Show.
