Forrest P. McKelvy, age 91, passed away on Sept. 14, 2022 at his home in Globe. Forrest was born on Aug. 20, 1931 in Rio Vista, Texas to Forrest and Stella McKelvy.
He is survived by grandsons Daniel McKelvy, Stephen McKelvy, Bobby Lyall and Ryan McKelvy, and granddaughters Kristen Carnell, Robin Carnell and April Lyall.
He also has five great-grandchildren, Chase McKelvy, Hailey McKelvy, Desiree McKelvy, Eliana McKelvy and Daniel McKelvy, and one great-great-grandson, Easton.
He has one surviving brother, Ken McKelvy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marion, his son Kenny, his daughter Susan, his grandson Michael, and numerous friends and family who were important to Mac.
His surviving child is Sherry Bentson. Sherry and her husband Marty have been taking care of Forrest for the last few years at Forrest’s home in Globe.
Forrest was a master craftsman who enjoyed pouring concrete, building things, traveling, camping with his lovely wife, friends and family, and teaching children. Forrest spent some time in the U.S. Navy, serving one year during the Korean War. He never graduated high school. He attended Texas Wesleyan while working at an airplane factory. He went back to Washington and went to Western Washington State and completed college.
He started in Globe as a 5th and 6th grade math and science teacher. Forrest was an assistant coach of the 1966 state champion Globe High School basketball team. He earned a master’s degree while attending ASU during the summer months. He ended his career in education in 1986 as a principal at Copper Rim. He loved his time as a teacher, coach and principal in all four Globe schools.
A Celebration of Life was held Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 220 E. Cedar St. in Globe.
