It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Genevieve Cadmus of White City district in Bylas. Genevieve died after fighting cancer on Sept. 20, 2022 at San Carlos Healthcare with her family by her side. She was born on July 29, 1941 in Bylas, Az. to Oliver and Alice Cadmus. She moved to Geronimo, Az. when her father was working for the railroad.

Genevieve attended the Bylas Day School and the Lutheran Church School. She worked in different capacities to help her family.

She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed parties and playing bingo. Genevieve went to church faithfully until she got sick, but she eventually was able to attend a few sermons. Her favorite pastime was relaxing with a cup of coffee and putting her jigsaw puzzles together. She was proud of her arts and crafts, including yarn work. She liked going to pick acorn and would lovingly grind it, cook it and serve it to her family. Every year she had a big garden with plenty of squash.

Genevieve helped teach her young children and niece to read. She always encouraged them in Apache by saying “Brush your teeth, you’ll need them later in life.” She would listen patiently to anyone but in the end she would ask them, “What do you think you ought to do?” because she knew we already had the answer.

Genevieve is survived by her children, Patrick Stanley (Valentina), Larold Cadmus (Alicia), Tina Tessa (Mark) and Vanessa Cadmus. She has one brother, Lavior Jerry Cadmus. She has 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She has a lot of nieces and nephews, and two godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Oliver and Alice; three sisters, Sally Cadmus, Betty Nez and Janice Ganilla; two brothers, Roy and Earl Cadmus; and her grandson, Irving Stanley.

A wake for her was held on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 starting at 4 p.m. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stanley Hall Memorial Hall.
