Gerald Jerard Miller

Gerald Jerard Miller was born Sept. 7, 1980 in San Carlos, Az. to Marcella and Gerard Miller. He entered into eternal rest on May 27, 2022 at Haven of Globe, Az. He was 41 years old.

Gerald attended San Carlos High School and graduated on June 4, 1999. After high school, he joined the Geronimo Hotshots for a year. Then on March 27, 2000, Gerald decided to join the United States Marine Corps. Three months later he graduated boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Ca. His military education consisted of Combat Engineer which was his primary specialty. [Combat Engineers build, repair and maintain buildings, roads and power supplies within the Marine Corps, frequently under fi re or in dangerous combat environments. Their jobs are among the most important in the Marines, and they’re often on the front line of any offensive action against enemy troops]. He was deployed for several months overseas to various countries like Japan, the Philippines, Norway and the Middle East. He also did a tour of duty in Iraq. In his time of service, Gerald was promoted to Corporal, taking a leadership role to lead other Marines. During his time of service, he earned various awards and medals such as Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with 1 bronze service star), National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2004, after serving his country in the Marine Corps, Gerald would return home to San Carlos. He spent the summer months with family and friends. That year in August, Gerald moved to Tucson, Az. While in Tucson, he worked as a bricklayer by day and in the evening he attended Apollo College for Massage Therapy courses.

On May 21, 2005 Gerald welcomed his son into the world, naming him Apache Jerard Miller in reference to a nickname he obtained while in the Corps by his Sergeant. He was a proud and attentive father of Apache in that first year of life especially, as he was born prematurely by three weeks. Gerald later gave Apache the nickname Bugalugs.

In July of 2005, Gerald moved his family back to San Carlos. He attended Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Az. for EMT courses in the spring of 2006. He worked at San Carlos Jr. High as a custodian from 2005-2007. In 2006 he and his family moved to Globe, Az. Then on June 4, 2007 he welcomed his daughter, Gerilyn Denise Miller. She was very close to her father, always going with Gerald wherever he went. She held a very special place in his heart. He had given her the nickname Bume.

From 2007-2014, Gerald held various jobs working as a laborer at the mines in Ray, Az. and Morenci, Az. He also worked security at the Apache Gold Casino for some time. In 2010, he worked as a custodian at Walmart while attending EAC and Chandler Gilbert Community College for electrical lineman courses. He obtained 70.5 credits in college courses. In 2013, he started work at the San Carlos Hospital as a custodian. He also worked at Jack in the Box in Globe for a while.

Gerald loved to be among family and friends, especially his children and his brothers. He enjoyed talking with family and friends, laughing, making jokes, listening to music, and watching movies and TV shows. He loved his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a fan of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals. On Dec. 25, 2015 he attended a Cardinals game. He loved that he had that opportunity to see his football team play against the Dallas Cowboys...and win a nail biter!

Gerald will be missed by all who knew him. He left us all with memories that we will cherish forever.

Gerald is survived by his son Apache Miller, daughter Gerilyn Miller, mother Marcella Miller, father Gerard Miller, and siblings Lemuel Dillon and Vanassa Miller. He is preceded in death by brothers Jason Miller, Lewis Miller and Jade Miller.
