Gila County’s historic jail in downtown Globe housed inmates from 1910-1981, could it be haunted by the vengeful spirits of murderers who spent their finals days within the concrete and steel cells? October brings Halloween’s annual celebration of all things spectral –and our communities have our own celebrated haunts right here in Globe-Miami! Guided ‘ghost tours’ repeat on the second Friday night every month at the historic Historic Gila County Jail at 177 East Oak Street: next dates are Oct. 11 from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and again Nov. 8. Tickets are $30 and proceeds benefit maintenance and upkeep of the historic building. The jail was featured on an episode of ‘Ghost Adventures’ -- reserve your own ticket to experience what may lurk in the shadows. Tours average 90 minutes, but can last up to two hours. Participants get to see and learn about equipment for paranormal investigation. Tourguides demonstrate and explain camera systems they use to view various locations in the jail. If needed, guests will be provided EM detectors and other equipment for free to utilize to try and catch evidence of the jail’s spirits. Visitors have reported loud bangs and eerie footsteps; shadowy figures have been witnessed throughout the building. ‘EVPs’ have been recorded here! at the location. Most recently, a spirit of a little girl has been spotted in the alley way.
