Gila County Historical Museum presents the Third Annual Old Dominion Days Sept. 9 - 12

Old Dominion Days is right around the corner! The Gila County Historical Museum is proud to present the Third Annual Old Dominion Days Sept. 9 though Sept. 12.

Old Dominion Days was established by the Museum to celebrate the “Golden Age” of mining in our community. Globe was thriving with the discovery of silver and copper. The Old Dominion Mine was in full operation and Globe-Miami was booming. In fact Globe was the fourth largest city in Arizona. Among our claim to fame was providing the first governor of the state of Arizona, George Hunt. Our community has a unique and exciting history and Old Dominion Days gives us an opportunity to showcase this history and just have some good, old-fashioned fun!

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we have been working our way through, our celebration will be somewhat different this year. COVID guidelines keep us from safely having any public gatherings at the Museum. However, we have four days that will be packed with history presentations. These presentations will be available for viewing on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/gilahistorical/

Topics include Cattle Brands of Gila County, TootsieToys of the Old West, Territorial Sheriffs of Gila County, The Old Dominion Mine, and Ice Plants of Globe-Miami to name a few.

We haven’t forgotten the great foods that Globe-Miami is known for either. Once again we will be taking orders for the famous cheese boats from the original Drive-In’s special recipe. We will be taking pre-orders for a dozen ($25) or a half dozen ($15). Orders can be made through our Facebook page and picked up Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of Old Dominion Days from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join us for the Third Annual Old Dominion Days Sept. 9 through Sept. 12 as we celebrate our great community history!
