Charlene Giles, of Globe, stands in front of her basement, which is filled with items for an upcoming yard sale planned to raise funds to start a local police explorers program. The yard sale is planned to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the parking lot across from Nob Hill Grocery, at the corner of Devereaux and Bailey. “We will gladly accept the public’s donations,” Giles said. She is also seeking volunteers to staff the booth at the yard sale. About the police explorers program, Giles said the effort to “engage and interest the young people of Globe in our police department will be so long lasting. In essence, we will ‘grow our own’ future police officers.”
