Globe Library’s Virtual Run/Walk Club: Go From Couch Potato to 5K

Posted

Need some incentive to get more exercise? Meet family or friends for weeknight walkabouts -- maybe even work your way up to participating in a 5K.

Globe Public Library is pleased to announce a new season of the popular run/walk club, which started Monday this week and continues tonight (Wednesday) and also Thursday; and with Monday, Wednesday and Thursday meet ups weekly through May. Coordinated by Globe Public Library staff and volunteers, the run/walk club has no fees or dues and welcomes participants from Globe, Miami, San Carlos and surrounding areas who are enthused to get more exercise, at their own pace and with encouragement from supportive friends in the group.

Participants met in person prior to the pandemic - then creatively transitioned to a virtual run/walk club over the past year in order to encourage and support each other to continue exercising. Some walk, others jog or run - some bring their leashed and well-behaved dogs along for the walk, sharing photos and updates on the group page Facebook.com/groups/544248562862623 (easy to find by searching keywords ‘Globe Public Library Walk Run Club’).
Rules are few: such as participants agree to posted waivers, and participants walk or run a minimum of 20 minutes on each club day. Participants are entered in a weekly prize drawing, with the winner announced each Friday - and the raffle re-set every week to encourage everyone to start again! For more information, call the Globe Public Library 928-425-6111, or connect on Facebook.
