Globe students compete at SkillsUSA Championship

GLOBE — Globe High School students participated in the 2017 SkillsUSA Championships on April 18 and 19 at the Phoenix Convention Center. The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

Four GHS students competed in the photography competition where contestants demonstrate their ability to use digital SLRs, image editing software (Adobe Photoshop) and professional studio lighting. Students perform on-site photography, portrait studio lighting & posing, process and print digital photos, a written test and submit a 11×14 or 16×20 mounted and matted photograph in advance of the contest to be judged and displayed at the competition. Contestants are evaluated on their mastery of entry-level job skills.

Three GHS students competed in the Automotive Competition, where contestants demonstrate their ability to perform jobs and skills based on the task list outlined by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Workstations consist of on-vehicle, simulations, bench and component testing and a written test. Contestants will be judged on technical competency, accuracy, quality, safety and ability to follow directions. There are 13 skill stations including the written test.
