Henry James “Hank” Bernal, aged 73, passed away on Feb. 14, 2019. Hank was born on July 5, 1945 in Miami at the old Miami Inspiration Hospital to Henry T. and Lucy Bernal.

Hank attended schools in Miami. During high school, he had met and married Carolyn Shaw (deceased). Hank and Carolyn had two children together, Melissa Diane and Mark Anthony. After high school, Hank joined the U.S. Army and proudly served for four years.

Hank’s real passion in life was to be in the great outdoors hunting, fishing and rock hunting. During his rock hounding days, he travelled extensively throughout the United States going to gem and mineral shows assisting a good family friend, Warren Mathews. Warren taught Hank how to find, make and market beautiful gemstones, which he did up until his last days. Hank also had an appreciation for good beer. He met many of his good friends sharing drinks and stories at local taverns. Although he had quit drinking a while back, he and Buster still made frequent trips to visit his friends at Wild Horses Saloon and the Liquor Stables.

Hank was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Lucy, and a brother Freddie Joe Bernal. He is survived by his children, Melissa Diane Weaver (Scott) and Mark Anthony Bernal; his two grandsons, Brandon and Colton; his sisters, Alice Perez (Dick), and Cecilia Bernal, as well as, many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends Bill and Roxy, John Schlosser and John Stryker, and his beloved faithful little companion, Buster.

The family would like to thank Tri-City Fire Department, Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, and Chandler Regional Medical Center for their compassionate treatment of our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.

The family will honor Hanks wishes to not to have any services.
