Herbert A. Lyman was an amazing and beloved father, husband, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his children John, James, Chad and Kristel Lyman. He is also survived by his siblings Leverda, Gloria and Franky, as well as 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ellen, son Steven, and sisters Mary and Diane.
He was a Navy veteran who proudly served from 1956-1958. He loved to tell his stories from his time aboard the naval carriers, watching the nuclear testing in the South Pacific Sea. After his return home from the Navy Herbert went to work for BHP Mining, Pinto Valley division, until his retirement. He taught leather work at Gila Community College for three years as a master leatherman, and he enjoyed creating beautiful custom leather works.
Herbert enjoyed his golden years by feeding the birds and shooting “the breeze” at VFW Post #1704, where he was a proud member of the Honor Guard. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. He was a kind, generous and loving man who would gladly give someone the shirt off his back so that they wouldn’t have to go without. He will be sorely missed by all of those who had the privilege to know and love such a wonderful man.
Memorial service to be held Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m., at VFW Post #1704 in Globe.
Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
