Homeless Coalition of Cobre Valley: Blankets needed, ‘Work Day’ Nov. 23

Posted

How can Globe-Miami residents help our local homeless population? The good news is our community answered a recent call from the Homeless Coalition of Cobre Valley: filling a truck of sleeping bags and ground tarps, blankets, socks and warm clothes at a Miami collection event Nov. 2. Both the Homeless Coalition and the Miami Memorial Library wish to express gratitude for the donations.

The bad news? There are too few emergency blankets available for the coming winter months. Donations are welcome, volunteers with the Homeless Coalition this week announced an ongoing winter weather drive for emergency blankets, sleeping bags, ground tarps and jackets or donate cash which the coalition can use to purchase lightweight and waterproof sleeping bags rated for 35 degrees or below (about $50), or $10 ground tarps to keep sleeping bags dry; $20 jackets, or clothing.

Your donations are tax-deductible, Homeless Coalition of Cobre Valley is a 501C3 nonprofit charitable group, and checks can be mailed to Homeless Coalition of Cobre Valley, 1173 West Live Oak, Miami, AZ 85539. Plus, here are four convenient drop-off locations accepting items listed above during the month of November: Azteca Glass in Globe, Edward Jones in Claypool, and in Miami both Ram Specialists and the Miami Library.

Volunteers are needed, and anyone who wants to help is welcome Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ram Specialists at 1165 Live Oak in Miami, where the team will sort blankets, jackets, and items to be ready to distribute.
