Humane Society of the United States lends hand in Globe

The Humane Society of the United States’ Senior State Director, Kellye Pinkleton, volunteer leaders and supporters travelled from Phoenix and Tucson today to tour the High Desert Humane Society in Globe and provide community service.

The team of eight toured the shelter, met with staff and volunteers and pitched in to help clean up the yard area for dogs, paint part of the new structure and future shelter office, provide veterinarian consultation and shelter best practices education as well as drop off donations for the animals.

HSUS came to Globe to get involved because Cheryl and Richard Brazell (president and dog rescue director) have been helpful with assisting the Rural Area Veterinarian Service Program, an affiliate of HSUS, project on the San Carlos Apache reservation and they wanted to learn more about the shelter and meet staff and volunteers involved in HDHS.

Dr. Lisa Shriver with the RAVS program visited on Aug. 17 to check in on some of the dogs that High Desert took in to provide treatment and new homes.

“The work that Cheryl, Richard and her dedicated volunteer team is doing in Globe is really amazing and we were honored to meet with them and learn more about Globe’s only shelter serving not only the city, but surrounding areas,” Pinkleton said. “Arizona’s rural shelters and rescue organizations have increasing demands on them and they provide critical services to animals and community members. High Desert Humane Society represents the heart and soul of animal welfare work and our hope is that the community responds to demands on the shelter by being active supporters and considers them their go-to place to adopt a loving, furry family member.”
