Joseph Granillo “Joe” Lopez was born on March 19, 1939 in Miami, Ariz. to Ventura and Maria Lopez. On April 19, 2021, at the age of 82, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Joe proudly served in the United States Navy. After his Navy service he returned to Arizona and worked construction and mining. When a recession hit copper mining in the 1960s, he moved to Idaho to work in the silver mines. In Idaho he met, fell in love with and married Margaret Jacobsen. Joe and Margaret had three children; Maria, Melissa and Joseph. In 1970, they moved back to Arizona where Joe worked for the copper mines as a hard rock miner and eventually retired in 1998. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and watching old westerns.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ventura and Maria Lopez; brothers Teodoro, Rudolpho “Fito” and Ventura “Ben” Lopez; sister Mary Lopez; and grandson Zachary Alexander Gonzalez.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret; daughters Maria (Anthony) and Melissa (Mike); son Joseph (Liz); grandchildren Katrina (Ryan) Cervantes-Dooley, Joshua Cervantes, Anthony Gonzalez, Alyssa Gonzalez, Tristan (Cassandra) Gonzalez, Seth Lopez, Breanna (Martin) Knaresboro and Serena Lopez; great-grandchildren Andrea “Andi” and Jacob Swann, Anastasia Gonzalez and Evelyn Knaresboro; brother Al (Robin) Lopez; sisters Jovita “Jaye” Howell and Concepcion “Connie” Cocreham; and many nieces and nephews.

Services are pending with Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Miami, Arizona.
