Mary Ellen (Huggins) Powers was born Aug. 2, 1927 to Richard B. and Minnie M. Huggins near Roosevelt, Ok. She was the youngest of eight children. She passed away on Monday, March 04, 2019 in her home in Globe surrounded by family at age 91.

With her family, she came to Arizona in the fall of 1936 and on March 7, 1947 she married Leroy Powers. They lived several different places in Globe and Miami and eventually purchased a house in Miami in 1956 and continued to raise their family of five children. She was a homemaker until late in her life when she decided she would do some work outside the home. She worked for the Arizona Silver Belt and McDonalds. She volunteered at Heritage Health Care and Copper Mountain Inn for a number of years.

With all their children grown and gone, and Leroy retired from the Arizona Silver Belt, they moved from Miami to Globe where they intended on living out their retirement years. Shortly after their move to Globe, in January 1990, Leroy passed away leaving her to continue her life alone.

She was always involved in church work for the Assemblies of God in Globe and Miami starting at the age of 17. In the church, she taught every level of Sunday School (nursery through senior adult), held every Sunday School office at different times, and held every office in the youth and women’s groups.

She was an example of Godly living and her life was lived for her Savior, Jesus Christ. There is a big void left by her passing and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She left a note that says, “When I get to heaven I hope to sing in a choir and also play a harp.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, one great-grandchild, her parents and all her siblings.

Survivors include her children, Philip (Jamie), Jimmy, Mary, Richard (Marie), and Anna (Jayce); 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Per her wishes, services were held at Lamont Mortuary in Globe on Friday, March 8 with Rev. John Brandt officiating. Interment was at Globe Cemetery.
