Memorial Association awards $575 Prize to Augustine Pena

The Gila County Public Safety Memorial Association conducted its first fundraiser raffle in the Globe-Miami community in the prize of 50 percent of funds raised, commonly referred to as a 50-50 raffle. The goal of the Association is to establish in Gila County a memorial monument honoring all of the many who have died in the performance of their duties protecting life and property for the citizens of Gila County. This first raffle was aimed at raising funds to pay fees associated with obtaining nonprofit status with the IRS. The Memorial Association is very happy to announce that the fundraising goal was reached thanks to the generosity of the community in participating in the raffle.

The winner of the first raffle, and half of funds raised, was Augustine Pena of Pinal Lumber, winning $575. Although this was the first fundraiser raffle by the Public Safety Memorial, there is soon more to come. Through a generous grant by Thrivent Financial, a nonprofit financial advising organization affiliated with the Lutheran Church, the Memorial Association was able to purchase a 39 inch flat screen TV and 10 inch touch tablet to be awarded as first and second prizes in the next raffle which will begin sometime after the new year.

The Gila County Public Safety Memorial Association congratulates Augustine on being the lucky name drawn from the hat and asks the Gila County community to continue to support their efforts to remember our fallen heroes.
