Norma Jean Mathews

We are sad to announce the passing of our grandmother Norma Jean Mathews, 83, of Globe, Arizona on Nov. 4, 2022. Norma was born in St. Louis, Missouri on Nov. 10, 1938. She traveled to Arizona where she later met her husband, and they spent 58 wonderful years together.

She is preceded in death by her husband Orville Mathews; daughters Roxanna Mathews, Janet McNutt and Kipper Poeling; and four grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Iva Mathews, 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was a gem of a woman who has been the strength, love and unity for our entire family her entire life, with her arms wide open to everyone at any time. Her smile would light an entire room and her hugs so tight will be missed dearly.

God looked around his garden

And found an empty space

Then he looked down upon this earth

And saw your tired face

He put his arms around you

And lifted you to rest

God’s garden must be beautiful

He only takes the best

We are all so blessed to have had this many years with her and we will all miss her dearly.

Celebration of Life will be Dec. 10, 2022 at 1 p.m., at Miami Mercantile & More, 155 S. Miami Ave. in Miami, Arizona. We invite everyone to please wear red as that was Nana’s favorite color.
