Public Comments Open for Highway Tank Project

SAN CARLOS — The San Carlos Tribal Fire Use and RTRL Programs, in cooperation with other Tribal Interdisciplinary Team members, are proposing to implement a number of vegetation restoration projects in the northwest corner of the Reservation, approximately 108,000 acres. These projects focus on increasing grasses and reducing fire hazard in woodlands and grasslands. Treated areas will have increased forage for cattle and wildlife, less soil erosion, and provide economic opportunities to Tribal members for harvesting and collecting firewood. Some boundary projects may be completed in a collaboration with the Tonto National Forest.

A draft Environmental Assessment for this proposal is available for review and comment for the next 30 days.  Contact Alan Rose, RTRL Planner, at 928-475-2326, or by email at arose@forestry.scat-nsn.gov for a copy of this Assessment.
