Rainbow of Hope

Posted

Dear Editor,

Sunday morning a group of volunteers (some who just happen to be our Mayor and City Council members) got up early to paint a rainbow over our beloved hometown.

There’s a grassroots social media movement going on right now that’s all about spreading hope during this time, and a rainbow is the symbol.

Our “G” Hill in Globe is a view we all know - most of us can see the G from our homes, we pass it on our way to work, and drive up to it to admire the view of our City. Freshman at Globe High School whitewash the “G” every year, after the over 100 year old rivalry football game with Miami High School. This is after Miami students paint the “G” green (their school color) and Globe students paint the “M” Globe Orange.

My niece in Long Island, New York invited me to a join a private Facebook page, “Rainbows over Nassau and Suffolk Counties and Beyond”, whose members are spreading hope and cheer through positive messages and good deeds. Why not bring that west? We are definitely in the BEYOND!

So the seed that my niece planted sprouted. Many thanks to our City of Globe Team - Mayor Al Gameros, Council members Charlene Giles, Jesse Leetham, Fernando Shipley, and Freddy Rios, also Steve Giles, and especially to my family Rich Kruger, Greyson and Mia. An EXTRA BIG thank you to our local Ace Hardware for donating all the paint - without even being asked to. As I was waiting for all the gallons (15) to be mixed, the store manager, Carissa asked, “So what exactly are you painting?” I told her our top secret plan and left to pay. She met me at the checkout and said they’d love to be part of the message. So THANK YOU, Carissa and Ace Hardware, you helped to share hope and cheer in our community. We’d love to see the rays of RAINBOWS shine in neighborhoods and other cities and towns in Arizona.
