The intent behind the collaboration between Arizona Youth Partnership’s Starting Out Right (SOR) program and the Safe Haven Domestic Violence Shelter and Gila House was to bring pregnancy, childbirth and parenting education and support to displaced families who find themselves at the Safe Haven Domestic Violence Shelter or in one of the Gila Houses.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, to provide classes via Zoom, Charlene Becker, the case manager/parent educator in Arizona Youth Partnership’s SOR program, presented the Safe Haven staff with a refurbished laptop from AZYP for use within the shelter, and a Chromebook was purchased through the United Fund of Globe-Miami’s ‘Year of the Yes’ grant.

Claudia DalMolin, Gila House/Safe Haven Domestic Violence Shelter executive director, said, “This was an exciting collaboration with AZYP’s Starting Out Right program, and we would like to thank United Fund of Globe-Miami for the first year of the ‘Year of the Yes’ grant.”
