Thomas Ray Cook, 93, passed away Tuesday, May 14 at Faubush Family Home in Globe, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond O. and Alice E Cook; his sister, Patricia Gayle; his brother-in-law, Steve Katich; his brother, William Eugene; and his wife, Betty J. Cook.

Tom was born in Bisbee, Ariz., on July 7 ,1925. His family moved to Globe-Miami area when Tom was a child.

The Cooks owned a ranch at Cherry Creek and Tom had many wonderful years there, helping his parents at the ranch and enjoying hunting in the area and fishing at nearby Roosevelt Lake. Tom went to work for Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company at the age of 18 years and one week. He retired from there on June 30,1985 after 40 credited years of service, which included one year and 10 months of military service.

Tom served in the United States Army during World War II in Belgium, France and Germany.Tom loved reading about the legend of lost gold in Superstition Mountains or the Navajo Skinwalkers or any Arizona history. He also loved to play cards and spent many hours playing with family and friends. He loved to plan and then carefully execute a harmless prank.

But what those close to him will remember most is his love of fishing.

Tom is survived by his sons, Bill (Janice) Cook; Gary (Mary) Denton; and Rick Denton. He is also survived by grandchildren, James and Timothy Cook; Patricia McBride and Amy Denton; as well as 15 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild, and his brother in law Charles “Tex” Gayle.

He was very affectionately known as “Uncle Junior” by his nephew, Mike Katich; his nieces, Shari Shanklin, Jana Katich, Kim Katich, Lori Galvan, Misty Katich, Stacey DeLaTorre and Christy Garcia.

Services were held at Bulman Miles Funeral Home in Globe on Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. followed by graveside military honors at Globe Cemetery.
