Tonto National Monument reduces hours to hike to Lower Cliff Dwelling

Posted

In order to mitigate heat-related incidents and promote visitor safety, Tonto National Monument will enter into annual summer hours to hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling. Starting June 1 and ending Aug. 31, hiking hours will be 8 a.m. to noon. Visitors who wish to hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling will need to begin their hike before noon.

No fees will be charged after noon and Interagency Passes will not be available. As an alternative, visitors can hike the Cactus Patch Trail loop to discover unique plants of the Sonoran Desert and enjoy scenic views of the Lower Cliff Dwelling. The Visitor Center will remain open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring an engaging 20-minute film about the Salado and opportunities to find items to remember your visit in the Western National Parks Association Park Store.
