Tonto National Monument to participate in Audubon’s 123rd Annual Christmas Bird Count

ROOSEVELT – Tonto National Monument invites the public to participate in the National Audubon Society’s 123rd Annual Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022. Visitors will help with the identification and counting of bird species found at Tonto National Monument. All levels of birding experience are encouraged, and this drop-in event is free and open to the public.
Anyone wishing to participate should meet up with park staff at the Visitor Center any time between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Bird identification guides and data recording materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.
The Christmas Bird Count is the nation’s longest-running community science bird project, and the data is used to study long-term health and status of bird populations across North America. This project helps Tonto National Monument by providing an updated species inventory.
