It is with great sadness the family of Veronica (Sermeño) Philpot announces her passing after a valiant battle with cancer, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the age of 63 years. Veronica will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 42 years Richard, and her sons, Brian (Angela) and Jason. Veronica will also be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Danelle, Vanessa, Mason, McKenna, and Morgan; by her sisters, ToniAnn (Tomas) Rodriguez, Susan (Frank) Tena, Theresa Powell; and her brother Michael (Theresa) Sermeño. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Eva Sermeño.

A native of Globe-Miami, Veronica graduated from Miami High School. She started as a volunteer at the age of 16 at the Developmental Learning Center working with babies, infants and toddlers who were born with special needs. She started full-time at the age of 18 and committed 44 years to special needs families in the Globe, Miami and San Carlos area. Veronica also served as a respite care provider to adults with disabilities and spent decades as a volunteer for the Globe-Miami Special Olympics team.

A Celebration of Veronica’s life was held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, December 16 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations in honor of Veronica be made to Special Olympics AZ so the Globe-Miami delegation can have the funds they need to compete.
