You need not be an expert on water or hydrology - or even how to boil water! Here’s an opportunity to help teach fourth graders all about water, land and conservation during the April 28 Water Festival planned for Harbison Field in Globe. Volunteers host a variety of interactive exhibits that teach kids about water, and all that’s asked of volunteers is to attend a two-hour training April 19 in Globe from 9:30-11:30 a.m., prior to the Water Festival that follows on April 28 from 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
“This educational field day instills a deeper understanding of water in the earth system and Arizona’s water resources,” said Gila County Superintendent of Schools Roy Sandoval. “This event has truly grown over the eight years we’ve hosted the Southern Gila County Water Festival, and become an effective way to celebrate science and water stewardship with hands-on learning activities for students In fact, we expect about 360 fourth graders over the course of the morning. For volunteers, here’s a way to contribute to the ‘water future’ of our communities . . . and we need you! Our two-hour training on the morning of April 19 explains how the Water Festival works so you’ll feel confident hosting an exhibit or activity to teach the fourth grade students all about water. Then, at the Water Festival, you will teach (or assist with) the lesson for which you trained. We provide volunteers with lunch and snacks throughout the day.”
