For those who knew Tanna Flomer of Merritt Island, Fla. and Miami, Az., we are deeply thankful she was part of our lives. Tanna passed away peacefully Thursday, March 11, 2021 in Tucson, Az. with her beloved husband of 49 years, Bill, at her bedside.

Tanna was born Dec. 6, 1943 to Frank Samuel Fields and Helen Zuern Fields in Tucson, where she spent her early years. Her family moved to Miami, Az. when she was 10 and she was a 1961 graduate of Miami High School. Tanna joined the Air Force Reserves after graduating from St. Vincent’s College of Nursing in Los Angeles, Ca. as a surgical RN. She was quickly assigned as a medical evacuation flight nurse, flying wounded servicemen from Viet Nam to the States.

Tanna often said some episodes of the popular TV show M.A.S.H. reflected similar situations she had experienced. After her military service she was employed as an RN in a private medical practice in Tempe, Az. This is when Tanna met and married William (Bill) Flomer, who was an Air Force instructor pilot at nearby Williams Air Force Base, Chandler, Az. After their marriage Tanna and Bill lived in 15 different homes, including four in England and Italy, over the course of his Air Force and airline flying careers.

Tanna loved to travel and meet new people and see new places. She had the great ability to adapt to and excel at nearly every new challenge. For example, some of the positions she had over these years were: RN, childbirth/LaMaze instructor, military child care center director, art museum docent, business office manager, Cub Scout Den Mother, prize winning gardener, home owner’s association secretary, wagonmaster/tour guide for an RV tour company and president of a Rocky Mountain area RV club. During retirement Tanna and Bill enjoyed traveling and touring extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South Africa, the Caribbean and Europe. Tanna was a dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother who is survived by her husband Bill, son Brandt (wife Molly) of NYC, NY, grandsons Theo and Nico, first cousins Peggy White and Helen Crews of Lexington, Ky., and dozens of other friends. It is with heavy hearts her family shares Tanna’s passing. We want to express our profound appreciation to the many friends throughout Tanna’s life who have shared their thoughts, memories and love for her. In lieu of a formal service, we ask memorials be made to local food banks, one of Tanna’s favorite charities.
