Fred Augustus Nelssen passed away at the age of 80 at his home in Roosevelt, AZ on June 24, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 28, 1943 in Phoenix, AZ to Eugene and Grace Nelssen and was raised on a farm in Tonto Basin. He worked for the Rod Plant in Miami for 36 years and was also a Reserve Deputy Sheriff at Roosevelt Lake, where he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and going for long drives exploring the mountains.
Fred is survived by his 4 children Shelly Holeman (Apache Junction), Cheryl (Billy) Medlin (Snowflake), Dodie Nelssen (Scottsdale) and Freddie Nelssen (Roosevelt); brother Kenneth Nelssen (Camp Verde); eight grandchildren Eric, Andrew, Ayla (Justin), Ethel, Heather (Roy), Kendra, Kaylee and Gavin; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Patricia; both parents; brother Robert; and sisters Clara Vermande and Bertha Treadway.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
