Sherry Dianne Smith, 79, of Globe, went peacefully to Heaven March 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family in her home. Sherry Dianne Hamman was born Oct. 17, 1943 in Port Gamble, Washington, to the late Wayne Junior Hamman and Evelyn Anna Floyd Schmerber.

She grew up and lived most of her life in the Globe-Miami area, graduating from Miami High School in 1961. It was at that time she met Johnny LaVin, but marriage would have to wait until after beauty school in Safford, Arizona. They would marry on March 13, 1964, and have two daughters, Stephanie Jane and Amber Lacy.

On Sept. 12, 1975, she married JD Smith, yes during hunting season. They spent many happy years together until his passing, Feb. 6, 2012. He was affectionally known as her “Honey.”

She owned and operated Sherry’s Salon of Beauty until she retired in 1986. She was very talented and enjoyed her artistic abilities in creating those famous Sherry “up hair dos” and later numerous crafts. She was the perfect example of a mother. Though we are saddened by her passing, we know she is reunited with her beloved husband JD and many other family members. You were the BEST Mom, Grandma, Sister and Aunt and we LOVE you more than all the stars in the sky! Families are Forever!

Sherry is survived by her daughters Stephanie (Jeff ) Colman and Amber (Louie) Martinez, stepsons Duane Travis Smith and Jarrod Tanner Smith, sister Susan Miller, stepmother Doris Hamman, grandchildren Shantel (Zach) Ross, Danielle Salcido, Austin Colman, Zachary Salcido, Louie Martinez Jr. and Lenette (Dominic) Schulte, 16 great-grandchildren and many other family members.

She is preceded in death by her Honey, JD Smith, brother Dusty Hamman, parents Evelyn Schmerber and Wayne Hamman, her beloved grandmother Flo Blair and many other family members.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Lamont Mortuary Chapel.

Services are being provided by Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
